Storytellers

Stories link us to the air, landscape, buildings belief and people of the world. We have held a few storytelling events; at schools, during the exhibition and as stand-alone events, and think they really bind us to the place that we live in. It is so lovely to be able to sit and drink in the tales of geographies that we know, to inspire us to enjoy them, and to remind us of them when we go further away.

Stones and Stories

Our storytellers are familiar with Caithness; from Golspie banshees to seafarers getting cast as far away as America. Each session is tailored to this landscape, and this is why they are so enjoyable. Come along – we do our best to cater to each taste, and do our very best to make sure they are accessible. Do get in touch through the contact form below if you have a question or concern about how you can enjoy these sessions.

Our next event is on October 12th where Jane will tell rocking stories linking us to the future, Alex will tell us about how we use stone now, and Greg will illuminate a history minerals in Caithness.

Past Event

As part of the 2023 Scottish International Storytelling Festival, we held a series of three storytelling workshops at the Ross Institute in Halkirk. Under the festival theme, “The Right to be Human”, we invited expert tale-tellers to talk to us about accusations of witch craft in Caithness, the spells and brews which can be used in this part of the world, and then heard of the darker, more chilling, tales in Caithness Folklore. Our mentees prepared short stories which were based in the Caithness landscape to present to the storytellers, and we will be working on these pieces throughout the year. This event was open to the public and we will be holding more throughout the year – ensuring the heating is top priority!
