Susan Marshall
Hi, my name is Susan Marshall and I am a full time ceramic artist. I have lived in many different parts of Scotland over the years, but I am now based in Castletown, where I am originally from. I studied Ceramics, Sculpture and Design at Cardonald College, Glasgow and achieved my diploma in 1999.
I fell in love with clay the moment my hands touched it; and it’s been a lifelong creative journey ever since. I’m currently exploring smoke firing techniques ( using locally sourced seaweed and lichen ) and hope to use this to enhance my work. I am delighted to be part of the exhibition, and have been inspired to make some pinch pot pebbles ,worry stones and Selkie stones; continuing to explore my knowledge of combining glass and ceramics, as well as applying the ideas of Scottish folklore, and in particular, the Selkie seal.

Viking runes are also of great interest to me so I have been exploring their making techniques, placements for readings and how they were used. My environment is a constant source of inspiration, its local nature, as well as Scottish stories and whimsical tales.
I am truly blessed to live in such a beautiful place, and have a huge sense of belonging to it. Everything I create is made by me, using hand building techniques, each piece handcrafted, in my pottery shed. This makes every piece truly unique, and adds to their charm. I am currently in the process of getting my website up and running, and hope to have that live by late summer/autumn.
