Rylan
My name is Rylan Guthrie, and I use they/them pronouns. I have just moved to the Caithness area from America to work in mental health and live in this beautiful place! I have completed my Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the US in mental health for criminal justice-involved and marginalized (LGBTQIA2S+, people of color, refugee) individuals. I hope to utilize this knowledge to work as an independent therapist for the Caithness area.
As an artist, I began self-teaching myself in drawing, painting, and nature photography in 2023. I love figure drawing as well as using art as a facet for mental health in building confidence, self-esteem, and exploring imagination without restriction. I have had the opportunity to have my work published on a book cover about the queer and transgender community, and have been featured multiple times in a Zine series that is focused on representing life outside of the cycle of current capitalism. I wish to utilize the Rising Artists of Caithness course to explore more facets/techniques of creating and using the mentoring/positive representation of this field to go further as an artist for a career, and attend art school in the near future.
