“I am Oakley Cundall. A photographer but also a long time dabbler in all sorts. I have always had a deep interest in transformation, and the use of materials in a way that isn’t always intended and highlighting hidden beauty. Whether it’s the use of found/discarded material in upcycling projects or using analogue film cameras for photography in the modern day.
A recent trip inspired me to get into lapidary – that’s stone polishing to you and me. I love the transformation from a rock that everyone passes by, to something beautiful, and showing the beauty that is overlooked but was always there. I saw Caithness differently through this new lens, seeing how we interact with rocks and geology and how that has changed over time
and so I am excited to be part of the Caithness Stone festival, capturing this new perspective on film.”
