Local Rocks

Photos telling a story about how people live with stone in Caithness:

Deciding on what these would be was not easy. Ideas included looking at Caithness flag in domestic setttings – at fire places and more contemporary counter tops, and then the journey of flag through the world through Castlehill Harbour and beyond. Looking at the journey of slate would have given a very focused set of photographs, and we settled on expanding the scope to include Caithness rocks of other sorts too, such as the Trinkie and the remains of brochs and Camster Cairns. This demonstrates how people live with stone, find fun and vitality in it, and are laid to rest with it. Flagstone does of course feature heavily still in this set of photos. Thank you Richard Lawrence for capturing some really picturesque shots.
