Figure Drawing Session Series
Figure drawing is a foundational technical drawing skill. It builds on observation, anatomy and the practise of transforming what is in front of you onto the page.
Studies show that drawing from life can promote positive body-image and decrease the liklihood of dysfunctional body perception. This is true both for the artists and the model – “So, what’s it really like working as a… life model?”. 2 hours of creative and disciplined art can be calming, centralising and a great journey to go on with like-minded artists.
We held the first series of sessions in a bright studio in Halkirk, and are looking at putting on the next set. Get in touch if you would be interested in attending, modelling (clothed or nude), hosting or similar. We are particularly keen to put on a series of classes which celebrate bodies which are proud, diverse, brave, queer, healing and or underrepresented.

Session 1 : Line
We provided attendees with a guide to these classes which gave materials suggestions, an explanation of the technique to be tried, and examples of work by well-known artists which show the technique.
This is meant to give those who havent tried life drawing before a structure to work within, and more experienced drawers a chance to go over well-practised skills.
