Equity, Diversity and Inclusion 1 day course

September 30 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Free – £25.00

We are delighted to be running the first of a series of training courses for artists and community workers across Caithness. This series is funded in part by Camster Windfarm administered by Foundation Scotland, and in part from Dounreay Community Fund

This is a one day course leading conversations about negative discourse, and how to find common ground in the community

Who its for

We’re designing for the wider creative community: artists, makers, performers, and the people who run the spaces they work in.

What the day sets out to change

  • By the close, participants will be able to:
Tell the difference between a genuine question, a fear, a piece of misinformation and actual hate, and respond differently to each of them
  • Explain where narratives come from and how they travel
  • Hold a difficult conversation using a structure they’ve rehearsed out loud with other people during the afternoon.
  • Name one specific thing they’ll do differently in their own practice, venue or group

The group will leave something behind: a piece of collective work, made on the day

How is it delivered?

  • In-person training with experienced Diversity Scotland staff
  • Interactive sessions using Dunnet Forest as a base, and art practises such as Hapazome (Plant-hammering) as a way to embed knowledge and build connections

Who should attend?

This is an all-level course. It is open to those who have attended similar sessions before and want to develop their knowledge, or those who are new to the framework:

  • Anyone interested in/already involved in community or art practises
  • Anyone who regularly engages in discourse which involves strong views
  • Anyone working in a setting which involves the public, supporting needs or recognising difference
  • Those looking to develop their understanding of the languages of diversity
