Miriam

Hi, I’m Miriam. Life has taken me on a rich and winding path away from my artistic roots for a time, but creativity has always been the quiet rhythm beneath everything I do. I hold a BA Hons from RGU in Aberdeen, where I specialised in ceramics. My work was influenced by the ever-changing Caithness landscape and by nature’s quiet authority in reshaping whatever humans place upon her.

When my children were young, I began sharing stories through Bookbug sessions at Thurso Library, which eventually led me to establish The Pixies Yoga, bringing children’s yoga to Caithness for the first time. These classes combined storytelling, movement, and mindfulness, nurturing imagination and connection in a unique way. I also delight in performing on stage with youths and adults at the Thurso Players, another form of storytelling that has kept creativity alive in my life.

In recent years, I have been working in local primary schools, and recently completed my PGDE in Primary Teaching. Teaching has been a joyful and fulfilling chapter, deepening my understanding of imagination, empathy, and play. Yet my artistic side is calling me back.

Through the Rising Artists of Caithness programme, I hope to rediscover and  strengthen that connection — to combine my artistic, educational, and  storytelling passions, and to take them forward in a direction that reviatlises my creativity and brings peace and purpose to my heart and mind.
