DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be running the first of a series of training courses for artists and community workers across Caithness. This series is funded in part by Camster Windfarm administered by Foundation Scotland\, and in part from Dounreay \n  \nWhat the course will cover: \nAn Introduction to Therapeutic Horticulture (1 Day Course) \nWhat is TH? What does it look like? Where does it happen? How does it benefit wellbeing and health? Find the answers to these questions and more in this basic level\, introductory day course.  \n  \nWhat will you learn ? \n\nUnderstand what Therapeutic Horticulture (TH) is\nExplore the variety of different types of TH\, gardens and practitioners\nAppreciate the benefits to social\, emotional and physical health of TH\nFind out how an ‘adaptive gardening’ approach enables person-centred TH activities\nUnderstand what Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (TH) spaces are\nExplore the theory and practical steps in TH garden design and the design process including accessibility and inclusivity\, circulation and orientation\, plant selection\, sensory gardens\nAlso consider the wellbeing outcomes of shelter\, social and private spaces; connection with nature; restoration and disconnection from daily routine\nFind out about the careers in TH\,  Profession \, Association and PDA and other training & support avaible \n\n  \nHow is it delivered? \n\nIn-person training with experienced Trellis staff\nInteractive sessions using a combination of slides\, breakout tasks\, quizzes\, video clips etc \, with time for Q&A\, and group discussions.\nDownloadable course notes and Trellis web resources avaible\n\n  \nWho should attend? \nThis is a basic level course . Its open to all beginners and those with little knowledge of TH or at the beginning of a TH career journey. \n\nAnyone interested in/already involved in gardening activity and health\nAnyone interested in/already delivering nature-connection activities\n\nProfessionals and volunteers supporting wellbeing\, working in settings such as: \n\nHealth e.g. nurses\, occupational therapists\, physiotherapists\, link workers with an interest in Green Health\nCare e.g. managers\, care staff\, activity co-ordinators\nEducation e.g.  teachers\, classroom assistants\, those specialising in additional and Special Educational Needs support\nCommunity and Specialist support groups e.g. mental health\, dementia\, homelessness\, cancer support\, welfare support\n\n  \nCPD Accredited \nGreenhouse & Artspace Accessibility: \nArt space: First half of the day. \n\nUp one flight of stairs to meet at the Sidh C Art Space\nunisex bathroom on the same floor\nseats of varying heights including sofas\n\nWalk from Art space to Greenhouses: 7 min walk with around 2 road crossings \nGreenhouse: Second half of the day \n\nuneven paths\nsteep incline to enter the greenhouses\nstep to the unisex toilet\n\nPlease email sidhchailleannart@gmail.com to discuss access requirements \n  \nwww.trellisscotland.org.uk\n  \n
